A suburban transplant, I have had to live in near-downtown enclaves for 20 years and near-Downtown Nashville for 15 years. My local homes have included low rent areas of the West End, the East End, and now the North End. Since bus routes are fairly limited I am rarely inclined to venture outside the I-440 loop, unless on vacation or joy ride.
I am a neighborhood organizer with no real job and a Ph.D. in ethics and a Divinity degree (neither of which pays very well). My interests include the politics of wealth redistribution and supporting losing progressive candidates. The Mayor’s Office recently conferred the 2005 Neighbor of the Year Award (an award so obscure you can Google for days and find no mention of it) for the Downtown area on me. I am a co-founder and former president of the S_town Neighbors neighborhood association with a membership approaching double digits.
My family is the source of my greatest inspiration. I have two daughters, ages 14 and 2, who I would like to send to Harpeth Hall. My wife, a successful professional, is both unceasingly supportive and my prime breadwinner.
